When I think of Aspen, I think of “world-class”. What brings us back there time and time again is of course the world-class skiing on 4 spectacular mountains, but beyond that, Aspen is home to some of the finest hotels, dining and shopping you can find anywhere. It is truly an embarrassment of riches! Where else can you wake up in a historic landmark uber luxe old west hotel such as the Jerome, ski on the mountain right in town, stop for lunch at Casa Tua, pick up a pair of apres ski boots at Prada, down a cocktail at Chair 9 at the Little Nell and then have dinner at Matsuhisa before your head hits the pillow? And Aspen is not just a winter destination – summer arrives with some of the best scenery, weather, outdoors activities like mountain biking and fly fishing and a summer full of major festivals that draw people from all over the world.
Built in the 1880’s, recently renovated head to toe in drop-dead gorgeous western chic with incredible western art, furnishings, bars, restaurants, pool and a sublime spa.
Right at the base of Ajax Mountain and in front of the Silver Queen Gondola. 5-star luxury, chic rooms, fantastic restaurants, and you could argue the center of Aspen apres ski life.
Recent $50 million refurb created warm inviting public spaces, luxuriously furnished rooms, new restaurants including the Chefs Club with rotating curated menus by some of the best chefs in the country, and of course St. Regis famous butler service.
The Aspen outpost of the famed South Beach restaurant lives up to its billing as one of the best restaurants in Aspen. Artichoke soup, penne puttanesca, Wagyu beef pasta, and a wine list to match and served by white apron clad waiters in a chic updated Tyrollean setting. You can literally ski down the mountain and walk over 2 blocks for lunch.
This is Nobu in Aspen, literally. After a day of hard skiing, what a pleasure to dine at this bustling eatery with all the Nobu standards such as new style sashimi, miso cod, Nobu crispy rice with tuna, and a full sushi bar.
The landmark bar at the Jerome Hotel with wild west silver mining era feel complete with a gorgeous stamped tin ceiling, vintage chandeliers and Chippendale chinoiserie bar. Delicious bar food including artisanal cheeses, Colorado beef burgers, and their famous Reuben sandwich.
Perhaps we’ve saved best for last. At an altitude of 10,900 located at the top of the Cloud Nine lift at the AspenHighlands ski area, this restaurant is one of the highest (and I would argue best) places in America where you can spend an afternoon eating hearty alpine inspired food while drinking Veuve Cliquot champagne overlooking the Rockies. Imagine the best party at 11K feet and you get the idea! But don’t forget that you have to ski down at the end of the day and its a long way to the bottom! Don’t miss this experience if you go to Aspen!
